Weekly WordPress News: Theme Reviews Crackdown, More Income Reports, Stripe Warning

This morning I read an article on WPTavern about the Theme Review team cracking down on themes which include custom widgets for displaying things like team members, testimonials and other content for custom homepages. Custom Post types are banned in the directory but some popular themes are skirting around this by using custom widgets to display the info. Apparently there is some discussion about to handle this, with the likely outcome being that the widgets will need to be moved to an external plugin which can be recommended to the user on activation.

The trend of revealing income statistics continues with CodeinWP revealing they made $67k last month, The creator of GravityView posted income stats of $100k in revenue for the last year. WPTavern commented on this recent trend here.

Lastly, I found this post which was a little worrying considering I also use Stripe for payment processing. UltimateMember were suspended from using Stripe with the message “Unfortunately, we will need to stop offering service for ultimatemember.com. Stripe can only support users with a low risk of customer disputes–after reviewing your submitted information and website, it does seem like your site presents a higher level of risk than we can currently support.
