7 Best WordPress Coming Soon Page Plugins for 2023: Build Your Audience Before You’ve Built Your Site
You’re super excited about the fantastic new website you are building. Your enthusiasm has even driven you to create social media channels to drive traffic to it. But while you are building your site, what will people see in the meantime? The default error page is ugly and will discourage them from visiting in the future. So, what is the solution? A WordPress Coming Soon page, of course!
What is a Coming Soon Page?
A Coming Soon (also known as Under Construction) page is what it says on the tin – a page that informs visitors to your domain that a new site is coming. Without one, they will only see a default error message, which equates to a poor user experience that will deter them from returning later.
Conversely, suppose visitors see an attractive page telling them that the domain is active and will soon be home to an excellent website. In that case, their intrigue will encourage them to check back again at another time.
An extension of the Coming Soon page is the Maintenance page. When used correctly, this keeps your audience informed of why your site may be unavailable, therefore ensuring a good user experience.
Key Benefits of Coming Soon, Under Construction and Maintenance Pages
WordPress Coming Soon pages bring significant advantages over the default error pages, including:
- Using virtually no technical skills, you can easily build high-converting Coming Soon and Maintenance landing pages sporting your branding
- You will be building domain authority before the website is live, which helps search engine optimization (SEO)
- Some plugins allow you to incorporate things like media, animations, and even elements such as countdown timers, popups, etc. to make the landing page extra eye-catching
- Generate interest in your site or products before launch by telling visitors a little about the great things that are coming
- Capture email addresses and other contact details via a call-to-action button, such as “Register to be notified when we go live.” Using a marketing or lead generation tool like HubSpot or OptinMonster can help with this.
While creating your own Coming Soon and Maintenance pages from scratch is possible, getting them to operate correctly requires coding knowledge. An easier option is to use a WordPress Coming Soon page plugin.

Other Ways of Adding Coming Soon and Maintenance Pages to WordPress
I just want to add that while there are many dedicated plugins are available for adding Coming Soon, Under Construction, or Maintenance landing pages to your website, there are also a couple of other methods to achieve the same goal:
- Page builders like Divi or Elementor
- Themes such as Gravity or The Launcher
Many of those have integral Coming Soon and Maintenance landing page functionality, meaning you won’t need to install additional plugins.
What’s Your Favorite WordPress Coming Soon Page Plugin?
Not so long ago, an unfinished website was worthless to a business. However, that has changed thanks to WordPress Coming Soon plugins, themes, and page builders. These have made it possible to start generating traffic, get noticed by search engines, and market your website before it is even launched.
I generally use SeedProd or Elementor to add a Coming Soon page to my sites, although I have not been very adventurous with those so far.
I’d love to hear how you add Coming Soon, Under Construction, or Maintenance landing pages to your sites. Is it with a dedicated plugin, or did you go down the theme or page builder route? And is there anyone that has done it with code? As always, please do drop me a comment down below.

I dont think that comes as a WordPress theme does it ?
Some people want a registration plugin, as a hoping/coming soon page.
Very interesting!

thanks, this was extremely helpful.
This was just the article I needed Oli. Was looking for a plugin or theme that I could use while my new project is under development. I think I’m going to go with WooThemes’ Placeholder theme. Although, i just realised that I won’t be able to see the site to develop it. OK, changed my mind now, I think I’ll be using the Custom Coming Soon Pages from CSSJockey, which I’ve actually used before. That should do the trick.
EDIT: I should note that the Custom Coming Soon Pages is no longer free. The newest version costs $20, though the free version is still available in the WP Repository.
I used the placeholder theme when I was developing WPAdCenter site.
Is this for your idea you had the other day ? Is it WordPress related ?
Yes, I actually decided to go with the Placeholder theme in the end. I installed a plugin to allow me to switch the themes so I can see it in development. It is the project I was talking about the other day and it is indeed WordPress related. I’ll be in touch soon to give some more details. Looking to launch on 1.1.12.
Ah nice, yeah give me a shout when you launch then!
I’ll be in touch before then. Got some ideas for launch that I’ll be reaching out to the community for. Also, going to ask for some people to give the site a look over and give feedback.
Great list! Another good placeholder theme is “SandClock” https://lizatom.com/wordpress-theme/sand-clock/.
I personally like the “Anticipate” and “SandClock” the most, both the frontend look and backend management. I tried “Ready2Launch” once and its css displays incorrect in some browsers, plus the theme itself isn’t any flexible, but I guess that is why people pay a few dollars for a “professional” placeholder.
Sir, here is an problem placeholder theme was not working properly on my site please help me sir
This is helpful!
