Setting Up the Theme
After you purchase the theme and have unzipped the file, you will see inside it is contained the main theme file in another zip, a recommended plugins folder, a child theme, a documentation folder and a demo content folder. Once you have uploaded the theme and activated it you will see a few options on the screen, you will need to click the “Begin Installing Plugins link” as there are two required plugins and two recommend plugins for this theme.
The required plugins are the Page Builder which also includes the importer and the revolution slider plugin which comes bundled with the theme.
Once those plugins are installed you will see a new menu item named “PMC Themes” which contains the demo content importer. You can sue this and it will set the theme up with all the same settings as the demo site – as there are a lot of settings, this would be my recommendation. Using this will setup the theme, the revolution slider, sidebars, widgets and so on.
For multi-purpose themes like this, a data importer is a great touch as these can be quite complex to setup until you get used to them. As you will see from the disclaimer above, it is only recommended to run this on a fresh WordPress installation as it removes any existing posts and pages.
Once the importer has finished running, you can visit your website and you will see everything has been setup :
Theme Options
Again under the “PMC Themes” menu if you visit the “Theme Options” link you can begin changing any options over here – General Settings covers menus, sidebars, logos and icons, header options etc
Styling options lets you change colors, backgrounds and add in any custom CSS
Social Options give you the chance to upload icons and add your URLs for various social media sites :
- Flickr
- Dribbble
- Google+
Finally you have Error Page, Footer Options and a Backup system so you can save any changes made in the options panel of you need to reinstall the theme or transfer to another site.
Page Builder
The page builder is where you can create your own page templates for the site or edit any of the pre-configured page templates which ship with the theme. There are many different homepage templates, blog template and portfolio templates to choose from. Creating your own custom template is pretty easy – its just a case of dragging the required elements to the desired position with the template.
On the add new page or post screen you also have the option of adding in these shortcodes by clicking the “Add new Shortcode” button which brings up a similar menu :
Conclusion
This is a well-designed and feature-packed theme, if you are looking for a theme with a huge number of built-in customization options, shortcodes, templates and so on then this theme should satisfy you. If you are someone who prefers a light-weight theme with minimal functionality built-in and rely on external plugins then I wouldn’t recommend it. Due to the many available options, the demo content importer was a great touch and I liked how easy it was to use – with one-click I had a site which looks identical to the theme demo, which can sometimes be hard to achieve with more complex WordPress themes.
At $45 for this much functionality if represents good value for money – Check it out if you are looking for a theme with many options for customization aimed at the environmental niche.
