Today we are going to take a look at the Supsystic Popup plugin for WordPress. This is a powerful tool that all website owners will be able to benefit from, in one way or another. The main purpose of this plugin is to increase sign-ups for your email list, but why would you be interested in something like that?

Whatever the purpose of your website, it’s essential that you are trying to encourage your visitors to join your email mailing list. Once a visitor signs up to your email newsletter or subscriber list, you then have a way to communicate with them, whenever you want, without them having to first somehow find their way back to your site.

Now with your mailing, whenever you’ve published new content, have an announcement to make, or simply want to reach out to your audience in some way, all you have to do is send out a single email. By using a professional email marketing service, you’ll even have the ability to auto generate a newsletter containing links to all of your latest content, which is sent out to your subscribers without any input required on your part.

In short, getting your visitors to become subscribers should be one of the main goals of your website. After completing this goal, you can then develop your relationship with them further via email, until they are ready to revisit your site, buy a product, or become a client or customer.

However, turning your one-time visitors into email subscribers isn’t easy. Thankfully, there are some great tools that you can use to increase your conversion rate for this goal. One of those tools is the Supsystic Popup plugin and in this review you’ll find out how it can help you better connect with your audience.

Popup Content Options

This plugin will display a popup window or full-screen overlay on your website. This popup can display a range of content of your choosing, including email optin forms, surveys, contact forms, Facebook Like messages, a video, a greeting, a custom message, or pretty much any content you like.

Popup Types

As well as the wide range of content you can display in the popup boxes, you also get a good selection of popup types to choose from. So as well as the lightbox style modal overlay popup window, you can also make use of full-screen lightbox windows and notification bars.

Full-screen lightbox overlays can be useful for displaying an important welcome message to your visitors that they can’t ignore. While a notification bar can also provide a nice alternative to regular popup optin forms.

As you can create multiple popups for your site, you can use the different options where they are best suited.

Popup Triggers

With this plugin, you also get access to a great selection of triggers that can be used to determine when your popup is displayed.

Popup Plugin Review Triggers

Some of these popup triggers include:

  • When any or a specific page loads
  • When a user clicks on a specific page element
  • When a user scrolls to a certain percentage of the page
  • When the user is about to exit the site
  • After the user has been inactive for a set amount of time
  • After the user has left a comment
  • After the user has made a purchase

One particularly nice feature of this plugin is the on exit trigger. This trigger will track the mouse movement of your visitors and then when the cursor leaves the browser window, the popup will be displayed. This means that the popup will only be displayed once it’s been detected that a visitor is about to leave your site. This way you can avoid distracting your readers while they are viewing your content, and wait until they’ve finished and after they’ve gotten to know you a bit better, before presenting them with an offer.

Being able to trigger a pop up after a user has left a comment or made a purchase is great. These features give you an opportunity to really target the popup contents for increased interaction. Examples of this could include asking the user for feedback on your checkout process or encouraging them to share the post they’ve just commented on in order to generate more discussion.

Popup Display Options

The Supsystic Popup plugin gives you lots of control over which parts of your site each popup is displayed. This allows you to create really specific popups that are targeted for a single post on your site.

An example of this could include creating a lead magnet giveaway of a free guide that is highly related to the topic of the current post the reader is viewing. By taking this approach, you can make your lead magnets very focused and therefore, more enticing to your users. This, in turn, should help to increase your conversion rates.

Fully Mobile Responsive Popups

As you would expect from a modern WordPress plugin like this, all of the popups are fully mobile responsive to ensure they work just fine, no matter the screen size they are being viewed on. You can also control each popup to determine whether it will be displayed on mobile devices or not.

How to Use the Supsystic Popup Plugin

The Supsystic Popup plugin has some pretty great features that will help you generate more leads and grow your email list. However, that doesn’t mean much if it’s difficult to use. So let’s take a look at the user experience of this plugin to help you decide if it’s the right choice for you.

Getting Started with Supsystic Popup

After activating the plugin on your site, you can begin creating your first popup. As you can see, the developers have decided to go with their own custom user interface (UI), rather than sticking with the native WordPress UI. This isn’t ideal as it adds another unnecessary layer of complexity to the plugin, without adding anything beneficial to the workflow.

Popup Plugin Review UI

When creating a new popup for your site, the first step is to give it a name. After that, you can choose which type of popup you’d like to display.

Clicking on the different types filters the available popups, making it easier to find the right tool for the job.

After selecting the popup type and then the template, you can then start customizing and adding your own content to the display. Through the design tab, you can customize the colors, upload images, and change the icons used on the popup.

Supsystic Popup gives you a good amount of control over how your popups will look. While the included designs aren’t that impressive, you do get plenty of creative freedom over the end product.

Moving along the design process, you can select where on the screen the popup is display. Again, you get plenty of options covering the location of the popup.

Adding your own content to the popup window is straightforward enough. This is thanks to the use of a visual editor for inputting and formatting your text.

You also get the option of deciding whether to display social media icons on your popup form, as well as selecting which if any animation effect is used when the popup first loads.

Once you are finished with the design of your popup, you can then set the integration with an email marketing service, or instead opt to add the user to your WordPress website and if so, in which user role.

As mentioned, this plugin integrates with all the most popular email marketing services so no matter which one you choose, you should be able to add your subscribers to that service.

Once your popup is up and running, you can view its conversion statistics from the relevant tab to see how it’s performing. You also have the option of creating a slight variation of your popup and running a comparison test to see which one produces the best results.

Supsystic Popup Plugin Pricing

The Supsystic Popup plugin is available on three pricing plans, depending on how many sites you’d like to use the plugin on:

  • One site: $29
  • Five sites: $49
  • Unlimited sites: $99

There’s also a bundle option, which allows you to pick up all of the plugins from Supsystic, as well as any future releases, in one package. This plugin bundle costs $49 for use on one site, through to $249 for use on an unlimited number of sites.

You can try the free version of this plugin too. This will give you a better sense of how it works, before deciding if you want to upgrade to the premium version.

Supsystic Popup Review Final Thoughts

Supsystic Popup looks great on paper and has all the features you need in order to harness the power of popups and grow your email list.

However, the user interface and design of the forms leave a little to be desired. It’s a shame because this has the potential to be a great plugin, especially considering its competitive pricing plans. While you can customize the form designs in order to overcome the lack of creative designs, this will take more work.

If you are on a budget and still want access to all of the best popup types, triggers, and settings, then Supsystic Popup is worth checking out. However, if you can invest a little bit extra; you will have a much more enjoyable experience with something like Bloom or OptinMonster.
