To get started with ShopIsle, you should make sure you have the free WooCommerce plugin installed on your site – then you can upload and activate the theme. On activation it recommends you to also install the WooCommerce Compare list plugin which allows the theme to make use of this extra functionality.
You can now view the front-end of your site and you will see that the theme is set up for you with some content in place for the slider and banners etc to give you a feel for the theme – you can now begin to customize it for your requirements.
Customizing The Theme
All customization of the ShopIsle theme happens within the default WordPress Customizer, visit “Appearance” > “Customizer” to start making changes to your site.
As you can see, each section of the theme has its own corresponding section in the customizer. At the top are links to the support forum and the documentation should you need them. The Colors section has controls for the header text and background color.

The homepage slider is also setup from here, you can add new slides and each one can contain an image, title, sub-title, button and button link.
Banners are added in the same way – these are displayed on the homepage and allow you to draw attention to different parts of your site, special offers and so on.
The Products tab is where you can choose which products you would like to show on the homepage – by default it shows the latest products, but you can also choose a category to show or insert a WooCommerce shortcode.
ShopIsle includes a product slider on the homepage which slides through different products, again like the products tab here you can define a category of products you wish to display here.
You are able to set some footer copyright text and social media icons and link them to your different profile pages – the customizer allows you to pick from Font Awesome icons to display here.
You can customize your Contact Page and About Page from here also. To do so you must first create a page publish it using the template you wish to use from the drop down. Then visit the page on the front end of your site and click the “Customize” link at the top which will take you back to the customizer where you can make changes to it. It allows you to paste in a short code from the Contact Form 7 plugin and also a Google Maps shortcode, you need the Intergeo Maps plugin for this to work.
The other section you should look at, is for the 404 page which allows you to add a custom image, title and text to be displayed should your visitor come across a broken link on your site.
How it Looks
The theme has a large header slider area which displays an image with text and buttons, clicking to the next slider is controlled by your mouse – it turns into an arrow when you hover over this area and you can click to the left or the right to change slides.
As you scroll down the site, the header gets fixed to the top of the screen as you move. Under the header slider is a banners area for displaying offers or sections of your site, then under that is the latest products listing.
You then have a video area with text overlay – you can upload your own video or enter a YouTube url for this, and under that you have the products slider.
The footer is widgetized with styling for the WooCommerce widgets so you can show product reviews, categories and so on.
Individual product pages are simply styled and follow the usual WooCommerce layout with the product image on the left, title and text along with price and add to cart button on the right. Underneath are tabs for product description and reviews.
Under that are related products to encourage people to click through to them.
If you add an item and then “view cart” you will see the cart is a really nicely styled full-width page which makes it clear how to update cart contents and then finally checkout.
This is a really nice theme which ThemeIsle have produced for free – the overall look is quite stylish with a nice layout so you should be able to tweak it for your needs quite easily. I would say this theme would be suitable for online shops selling fashionable products such as clothing, accessories, beauty products, jewellery etc. The layout is quite minimal with lots of whitespace which help make the images stand out more, you will definitely need high quality product images to make the most of this theme.
Customization is handled very well using the WordPress customizer – each section is clear what it’s purpose is and has good options for each. Two things I noted that could be improved here is more colorization options ( there are only 2 currently ) and a section for Typography – it would be nice to be able to change the fonts about, preferably offer Google fonts as an option.
I did also notice, on theme activation it only recommended one plugin – it should also recommend the WooCommerce plugin itself and also the Intergeo map plugin and Contact Form 7 as the theme directly integrates with both of these.
This is a good quality, well designed and coded theme – I recommend you take a look at it if you like the look of it, it has been built very well and offers good features comparable to paid themes.
