Theme Setup

Once you activate the theme, if you haven’t already installed WooCommerce, the theme will recommend you to install and activate it which you can do by following the link at the top.

If you need some test data to import into your site while you work on customizing it, there is a folder located inside the WooCommerce plugin folder named “Dummy Data” with an .XML file, you can import this by going to “Tools” > “Import” > “WordPress” and locating the file and importing it which will set up a number of products for you.

Once you have products on your site, you need to tell WordPress to use the WooCommerce shop page as your homepage, to do this visit “Appearance” > “Customizer” > “Static Front Page” and from the drop down for “Front Page” choose the Shop page, you can also define a page here to use as the blog for the site.

The Customizer also contains a few options for your site such as background color, background image so you can tweak the look of these.

It also has options for a Logo, Sidebar and Mega Menu but these are disabled in the free version, you will need to upgrade to the pro version to make use of them.

Social Media Menu

The theme includes a social media menu which is displayed in the footer and allows you to link to your profiles. To enable this, visit “Appearance” > “Menus” and create a new menu – add your links as custom links and tick the “Social” box at the bottom.

These will then display in the footer like so:

How it Looks

The homepage of Shophistic is a nice clean layout which displays your products for sale in a grid layout with a left-hand sidebar. There is some nice hover effects if you mouse over a product – the image is enlarged and it shows an add to cart icon.

The individual product pages are also very clean with the main product photo at the top with smaller ones to the left which slide to the left or right within the main image area.

Underneath is the product review section and some related products underneath that.

One of my favourite things in this theme is the shopping cart which is displayed as an icon top right, once you have added products to the cart and hover over it, your items are displayed in a tidy drop down which allows you to checkout or view your cart.

Pro Version

If you need more features, there is a pro version of Shophistic available which costs $59 and includes the following additions :

  • Support
  • Home Page
  • Color Options
  • Unlimited Sidebars
  • Footer Widget Area
  • Google Fonts
  • Mega Menus
  • Visual Composer
  • Revolution Slider
  • Mailchimp Support
  • Custom Logo Upload
  • Product Views
  • 4

I like this theme a lot – its exactly what I look for in an eCommerce theme, a well organized layout with minimal styling which allows you to put your stamp on the site. It is not bloated in anyway with extra features you may not need – any extra functionality, sliders etc can then be added with plugins, Shophistic provides you with a clean framework to work from.

It would be nice to have more color and font options in the free version but you can always tweak these with the use of a child theme and some custom CSS, if you are not able to do so, the upgrade option for $59 is good value as it also adds a whole load more features including a slider and mega menu, plus you also get support with that version.

Take a look if you are looking for a very clean WordPress theme designed for WooCommerce.
