If you’re in real estate, you need a website to attract clients or tenants. That’s just a fact. As of 2012, 100% of American home buyers used the Internet to research a specific home. 100% is a tough number to argue against. And ever since WordPress became a more all-purpose CMS, it’s a great solution for creating a real estate website. Since we’ve already highlighted some of the best WordPress real estate themes, I thought we’d take a bit of a different approach in this post. Instead of focusing on themes, I’m going to focus on the best real estate plugins. That way, you can turn literally any theme into a fully-functioning real estate website!
While there a plenty of general plugins that all WordPress sites (included real estate) should use, this post will focus solely on real estate plugins for WordPress.
Let’s jump straight in…
Real Estate Plugins for WordPress
IMPress Listings, formerly known as WP Listings, is a popular free real estate plugin that creates a detailed listing management system inside WordPress.
It includes helpful default taxonomies to separate listings by their location, status (sold, reduced, etc.), property type, and features.
You can also create your own taxonomies if you’d like to organize your listings in other ways.
Individual properties will display without the need for individual shortcodes for each listing. And the plugin will even automatically add Google Maps locations for each property listing.
While the developers recommend you use IMPress Listings with their Equity theme, they’ve put in work so that the plugin will work well with any theme that you use.
If you go premium, you’ll also get access to additional listing templates as well as support for MLS through IDX Broker and other helpful features.
Real Estate Pro
Real Estate Pro is a premium plugin that helps you set up a detailed real estate listing website.
You can either use it to manage your own listings or to sell paid listings to third-party agents. Or both!
If you do decide to sell listings, you can accept payments via both Stripe and PayPal. It even includes a bidding system to sell certain featured listings.
The plugin includes detailed taxonomies to divide up properties and makes it easy for users to search.
And finally, it can help create a great big Google Map which showcases all of the listings in each location.
Real Estate Pro costs $40 at Code Canyon.
WP Amortization Calculator
WP Amortization Calculator is a premium plugin that helps you create a mortgage loan calculator on your real estate site.
Yes, there are plenty of free loan calculators. But here’s why I think WP Amortization Calculator is worth opening up your wallet:
It helps you generate leads from the calculator by luring in customers with a free PDF report sent to their email.
That, combined with gorgeous looks, is what makes WP Amortization Calculator worth $20.
You can buy WP Amortization Calculator at Code Canyon.
Estatik is a freemium plugin designed for both solo real estate agents and portals alike.
It helps you create a beautiful responsive listing website. To accomplish this, you can use either your own theme or one of Estatik’s dedicated themes. One thing I like is that they include multiple demos so you can see how the plugin functions on both regular themes and dedicated themes.
To organize your listings, you can create as many taxonomies as needed.
On the listings page, the plugin seamlessly displays:
- Property photos in a gallery
- Property information
- Basic listing details
- Google Maps location
The Pro version adds even more features with:
- Video tours
- Social sharing integrations
- A map displaying all of your listings at one time
- A “Request More Information” widget
- Added styles
- Lots more
Easy Property Listings
Easy Property Listings is a free plugin with paid extensions to help you flesh out your real estate site. Though it includes some dedicated theme templates, it’s designed to work with any theme and is confirmed to integrate with popular themes like Genesis, Headway, and iThemes Builder.
You can display listings as either a responsive grid or a vertical list.
Listings are easy to add thanks to a custom post type. And you can clearly divide up listings by agents thanks to detailed author profiles.
Easy Property Listings also includes a detailed search widget which pulls from your theme’s styles to fit your design.
If you need more features, Easy Property listings offers a number of paid extensions adding functionality like:
- Advanced mapping
- Extra listing templates
- A staff directory
- Front-end submissions (if you want to allow third-parties to list)
- Lots more.
UPTOWN - Real Estate Plugin
UPTOWN is another premium option which helps you create property listings for various real estate projects.
One of the highlights of this plugin is its detailed Ajax search. Visitors can easily narrow down properties by different criteria and see the results update without needing to reload the page.
Property listings open in an attractive lightbox, again eliminating the need for visitors to navigate to different pages. The lightbox makes it very easy for your visitors to view multiple property listings.
If you don’t like the lightbox functionality, you can also choose to use the more standard solution of separate pages for each listing.
The individual property listings include relevant details like:
- Location on Google Maps
UPTOWN currently only has 45 sales at Code Canyon, so it’s not the most popular plugin. But in perusing the demo site, I was impressed with its functionality.
It’s also a steal at just $15 for the plugin.
WPL Real Estate
WPL Real Estate is a free (sort of) plugin with plenty of paid add-ons. Honestly, to get the most from the plugin, you will need some of the paid add-ons. And the paid add-ons are very pricey, some running into the thousands.
The plugin is beneficial for both solo real estate agents and real estate agencies. But from poking around, it seems like the setup requires some advanced knowledge. So I think WPL Real Estate is more suited to developers creating a website for real estate clients.
It integrates with MLS, supports RETS / IDX / VOW, and has tons of additional features (both free and paid).
If you’re a developer trying to create a real estate website on WordPress for a client, then definitely give WPL Real Estate a look.
Final Thoughts on Real Estate Plugins
While these real estate plugins will certainly help you create a thriving real estate website, they aren’t the only way. In the past, we’ve featured a number of dedicated real estate themes.
