Add Windows Metro Style Social Sharing Buttons to WordPress

Don’t we have enough social sharing plugins for WordPress? I would have thought so, but I came across a nice new free plugin called Juiz Social Post Sharer the other day and while it not being ground breaking in its idea I did like its execution – its nice and clean and one of the display options is a Windows Metro style so I thought Id “share it” with you on WPLift.

Install The Plugin

Download the plugin and in your WordPress admin, visit “Plugins” > “Add New” > “Upload” and upload the file.

Once it is uploaded, click “Activate” under the plugin and you will see it adds a new menu item under “Settings” called “Social Post Sharer”

Plugin Options

If you visit the plugin page by clicking the “Social Post Sharer” menu link the first choice you need to make is what style buttons you would like to use – I think all the styles are nice but for me, the Metro style ones stand out :

Next up, you can choose which services to show, the options are :

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Google+
  • Pinterest
  • Viadeo
  • Linkedin
  • Digg
  • Stumbleupon
  • Email

Finally, you have some advanced options for things like hiding the text and opening links in a new window. There is also “Display counter” option which is greyed out and says will be vailable in the next version.

After you’ve set your options hit “Save Changes” and visit a post on your site and you will see they have been added to the bottom :

I like this plugin a lot – I think its got great potential. I love the fact that you dont have to use any Javascript if you dont want to – the sharing buttons are simple links so they dont add any overhead to your page – too many sharing plugins start to slow your site down with javascript loading from various sources. I love the look of the metro-style buttons, they look so clean that they should fit in to any theme.

Future featues I would like to see are more available sources, a color picker for the buttons ( can only currently have blue and grey ) would be great to really match them to your site and shouldnt be too difficult to add as a background color in the CSS. Finally I would like to see more positional options, the ability to choose top or bottom of post would be nice and maybe even to show it at the side of the site, like I do on WPLift.

This is a great plugin – check it out yourself if you’re looking for a clean and light-weight social sharing plugin.
