Trust me - after banging my head against the wall for a few hours, I almost gave up...until I found some of these tools.
With one of these free logo makers, you can quickly create a good-looking logo. Even if you’re not a professional designer (or even a hobbyist designer!).
I can’t promise these tools will give you something truly amazing. But I can promise that they’ll give you something that at least looks pretty good. And that should be enough to get you started, at a minimum.
A Quick Intro To The 2 Types Of Free Logo Makers
I’m going to include two different types of tools on this list:
- Logo makers - with these, you actually design your own logo using a simple online interface.
- Logo generators - with these, all you do is input your business name and the tool automatically generates a bunch of different logos for you. Some even use artificial intelligence to offer better suggestions.
Let’s jump in, starting with the logo makers…
5 Free Logo Makers To Design Your Own Logo
All of these tools let you build your own logo using a cloud-based editing interface.
Logomakr is my favorite free logo design tool.
I’ve used it on a few different sites now and it’s the best tool I’ve found for creating basic logos with text and/or some vector images.
It’s also super simple and doesn’t require any registration to use the tool.
All you do is head to the website and build your logo using text, shapes, or one of the millions of included graphics:
Then, you can download your logo for free, though you do need to provide attribution.
There’s also a paid option that gives you higher resolution files and removes the need for attribution, though I’ve never had an issue with the resolution of the free logo.
All in all, I would make this one your first stop if you’re looking to create a logo for free.
Designapp.io is another free tool that doesn’t require registration to create a logo. With it, you can build your logo using your own shapes and text. Or, you can choose from one of the pre-built logo templates (which is a feature that Logomakr doesn’t have).
The templates are not free, though. So the tool is only 100% free if you build your own layout from scratch.
I find Designapp.io’s interface to be a little more flexible than Logomakr, but Logomakr’s is a bit simpler and easier to use:
Canva is a popular online graphic design tool.
It’s actually something I’ve previously covered when I showed you how to create WordPress featured images using Canva.
But Canva isn’t just for featured images - you can also use it to create your own logo.
All you need to do is choose the Logo image type and you can either:
- Choose one of the existing free or premium templates to customize
- Build your own logo from scratch
Canva’s design interface is also a lot more robust than the other free logo makers, though some of the elements aren’t really suited to logos.
The only downside of using Canva to create a logo is that you can only download your logo with a transparent background with the paid Canva for Work plan.
With that being said, you can get a 30-day free trial, which should give you enough time to create your logo and get out (if desired) without paying.
Logo Garden is another free logo design app that fits more in the style of Logomakr and Designapp.io than Canva.
Like those two tools, you build your logo using text and the tool’s included shapes.
One nice thing about Logo Garden is that it includes text and shape effects, which make it easy to add a little of your own style to those elements:
But other than that feature, there isn’t a ton there to differentiate Logo Garden from the other two tools. Additionally, I find Logo Garden’s symbol selection to be lacking in comparison to the other tools.
For that reason, I would only try Logo Garden if you haven’t been able to make any of the other tools work for you yet.
Logo Crisp is somewhere between a logo maker and a logo generator.
It starts you off with an interface to help you generate some pre-built templates. Then, it gives you an interface to let you further edit your logo to make it your own:
There’s one big catch, though:
While it is free to create a logo, it’s not free to download that logo. So while you can build cooler logos than some of the other tools, you’re probably going to need to pay if you want to actually use that logo on your site.
That’s a bit of a bummer and why I listed Logo Crisp last, despite it having a very nice interface.
3 Free Logo Generators To Have A Logo Made For You
Rather than making you build your own logo, these tools generate a premade logo for you.
Logojoy uses artificial intelligence to help find the perfect logo for your business.
How does that work?
First, you enter your company’s name.
Then, Logojoy will show a bunch of generic logo styles to you. Here’s where the artificial intelligence comes into play:
You select the logo styles that you like. And once you’ve selected at least five logos that you like, as well as some color palettes that you like, Logojoy uses artificial intelligence to generate a logo for your company that matches those styles:
Logojoy is a truly cool tool. The only downside is that, like Logo Crisp, Logojoy is only free to create a logo. To actually download your logo, you’ll need to pay.
The download packages start at $20 and go up from there.
MarkMaker is another artificial intelligence-powered logo generator that follows the same general concept as Logojoy.
There is one tweak, though.
With it, you enter your company name and then MarkMaker generates a bunch of logos using your actual company name (whereas Logojoy generates generic logos at first).
Then, you tell the tool which designs you like.
As you start liking designs, MarkMaker will generate additional logos that fit with the styles you’ve liked:
The logos are a bit more basic and text-based than Logojoy, but it’s still a very cool tool.
And the cool thing is that it’s 100% free, though they do accept donations if you’re happy with the result of the tool.
Shopify Logo Maker
Shopify’s Logo Maker isn’t anywhere near as nifty as the previous two tools. Instead, it takes a much more straightforward approach.
All you do is use preset configurations to edit the logo template. Then, when you’re happy with how things look, you download the logo:
I call this one a generator instead of a maker because the interface isn’t freeform like the other logo makers. Instead, you’re just selecting from preset settings.
Honestly, this one is the least cool tool on this list. But if you like the basic style, it’s super simple to use.
Enjoy Your Free Logo!
And that wraps up my list! Like I said, Logomakr is my favorite free logo maker. And I also love both Logojoy and MarkMaker for how they use AI to help you generate a logo.
I hope one of these tools comes in useful and helps you create an awesome logo without breaking the bank. And if you come across another cool logo design tool, leave it in the comments so more people can benefit!
