DealFuel is a deals website which offers a large range of special offers on products aimed at WordPress users, designers and developers. It is owned by Hummingbird Web Solutions, a company which has been steadily launching new WordPress related websites and acquiring a large number of existing properties over the years.

They purchased two of my premium plugins in the past, WPAdCenter and WP-Answers to add to their portfolio of websites. One of their largest acquisitions to date was their recent purchase of CyberChimps, a large and well established theme company which owned the Responsive Pro theme.

DealFuel offer some really good discounts on their deals with some well-known WordPress products currently on offer. They also have a club membership which you can join on a monthly or yearly rate from $9.99 per month or $49.99 per year which then gives you an even better “members” price on certain deals, offering an additional 25%-50% discount.

Today we are going to take a look at DealFuel and see what they have to offer for WordPress users, we also have a competition for you ( scroll to the bottom to enter ) to win a collection of WordPress themes by CyberChimps.

I spoke to Ravi, part of the DealFuel team to learn a little about behind the scenes.

When was DealFuel Launched?

The DealFuel website was initially launched by the eBook giants SitePoint to promote SitePoint deals in January 2011. It was later taken over by Hummingbird Web Solutions in Mar 2012 and transformed into a daily deal site for web professionals.

How many people are working on the site ?

There are currently 5 people working behind the scenes on DealFuel – from tattoo artists to dancers and yoga maniacs – we are pretty lively bunch here at DealFuel. Apart from being crazy about food and being charming and clever, we share an underlying force to keep our customers happy. We are more than just a team, a family more like it. You can read more about us here.

How do you go about sourcing new deals?

When we talk about deals, we first think about our customers. We feel darn good when we hit a deal that has sky rocketing sales on the first day – it means that we could meet the trust and needs of our audience.

Typically when we search for a deal, we first zero-in on the type of deal our customers are looking out for. This is usually done by studying the past sales history and by getting an opinion poll from the users via emails and surveys. And of course a little bit of grey cells Then we do our very own research by looking out for the right mix of products and studying their reviews and features and approach the owners. Sometimes, product owners get in touch with us directly as well. There is an option on the website to submit a deal.

Which deals are the most popular?

Our customer base comprises mainly web professionals, meaning web developers and web designers. Our customers usually love WordPress products including plugins, themes, courses, eBooks and utilities, SEO products and Design resources. We have a huge variety of design resources like icons, stock photos, textures, Photoshop actions, utilities and software.

Amongst all the deals, we love Sundays and so do our customers. Sunday is a freebie day! We often receive mega bytes of praise for our great freebies that Amruta works arduously in hunting and negotiating.

What methods of promotion work well for the site?

We usually send out newsletters announcing new deals or special offers about the our site and we often run giveaways we work very well for us.

How do you intend to grow the site ?

We intend to grow via our affiliate and partner network using tools like newsletter and article sponsorships, giveaways and social media. We also expect a lot of word of mouth growth by just getting the best and most awesome deals for our audience.
