Another month has come and gone, which means it’s time to round up the best free WordPress themes for the month of September. A number of different themes dropped in the WordPress repo since our last roundup. Multipurpose business themes were a common theme this month, but there were also a few blogging themes.
Here’s our roundup of the best free WordPress themes for September 2016.
Talon is a multipurpose WordPress theme by aThemes suited best for business websites. It features a large header with a call-to-action button, numerous options in the live theme customizer, over 800 Google Fonts, a widgetized footer and multiple blog-page layouts. It’s fully compatible with free page builder plugin Page Builder by SiteOrigin. In fact, the main business page of this theme was built using this plugin.
LayerStore is a free WooCommerce theme by Themes4WP and is a child theme of the developer’s MaxStore theme, which is also available for free through the WordPress theme repo. This theme supports product searches with category select and comes with a product carousel. The theme utilizes the live theme customizer, and the homepage is configurable.
Astrid is a free business theme by aThemes. The theme comes with a large header that features a call-to-action button and features built-in widgets beneath that for services, team members and more. It also comes with page templates you can use to build business-related pages. It makes great use of the live theme customizer and comes with aThemes’ own page-building system.
4. Dream Spa
Dream Spa is a business theme designed for spas and beauty salons. It was developed by Webriti and is a child theme of the developer’s free Spasalon theme. It has a large header and lets you list the services you provide beneath that. It comes with a powerful options panel, widgets for the footer and a full-width page template.
Bizzboss is a business theme by IndigoThemes. It features a large header with a call-to-action button at the top of the page and uses Page Builder by SiteOrigin to build the homepage. This theme also has a pro version that comes with custom widgets, custom options, such as an unlimited number of colors, Google Fonts, and a 1-click demo install feature.
Screenr is a fullscreen, parallax, multipurpose WordPress theme by FameThemes. It comes with custom content blocks that display a business’ company information, services, latest posts, contact form and more. It offers a number of different options in the live theme customizer, such as custom colors for links and footer text and custom blog options. It also comes with custom page templates that give you access to pre-made styles.

Lesse Lite is a multipurpose theme that works as a blogging theme. Your latest posts are featured in a slider on the homepage as well as in a typical list beneath that. Onefold is a multipurpose WordPress theme that works best for service-based businesses. It lets you advertise your latest product or best service with a header and call-to-action button at the top of the site. Modern Decode is a portfolio theme by Raiber Cristian. It’s a child theme of Decode, a free theme by Macho Themes. It’s a minimalist theme designed to place the focus on your business and content. It uses a hamburger menu that slides out a widgetized sidebar when you click it. It’s meant to be a portfolio theme, but its minimalist design makes it suitable for blogs.
RAD is a simple theme by Divjot Singh designed for sites that publish a lot of content. It features a static header at the top of the page and your latest blog posts beneath that. It comes with stylized social icons, pictured below. It also features a sticky header that displays your site’s logo on the left and the social icons on the right.
