An author box is an area that follows a post in a WordPress site which gives the reader more information about the author of that post – they work equally well on single or multi author blogs. A good box will contain a paragraph or so of information along with links to social media profiles and website details. Up till now you had to code this by hand into your theme but a newly released free plugin called “Fancier Author Box” aims to do this process for you …
Make your every post stand out and attract your readers’ eyes. Connect with your audience on all levels and make sure people always read your author’s bio and engage you on social networks.
In this post I will be taking a look at installing and setting this plugin up.
Install The Plugin
Download the plugin, then in your WordPress admin, visit “Plugins” > “Add New” > “Upload” and upload the file.
Configure The Plugin
After you’ve activated the plugin, visit “Tools” > “Fancier Author Box” and will see some options for displaying the box such as whether to show in posts, pages and any custom post types. The number of latest posts to show and finally some color options for it :
To add in your details to be show in the author box visit “Users” > “Your Profile”. Fill in the usual profile details and then scroll down where you will see a setting to enable / disable the fancier author box plugin and some extra details to fill out for your social media profiles, company, position etc

How it Looks
With the plugin activated, if you visit one of your posts you will see it in place at the bottom – the first tab shows your bio, gravatar pic and social media links :
Clicking the other tab shows a list of your latest posts, however many you configured in the settings before :
Pro Version – Fanciest Author Box
I noticed when testing this plugin, there is a pro version for sale for $10 which has more features with tabs for facebook, twitter and google+ so check that out if you want these features.
I liked the functionality of this plugin, its a lot better than building these features into your theme files as you can change themes but keep all the info still. My only gripe is the visual look of the box – it needs some work to make it more attractive, the thick black border doesnt look good at all. This is a small point though, you could write some custom styles for it to make it look better. All in all, a thumbs up from me – check it out if you want to add an author box easily to your WordPress site.
