What a month! – October has been the best traffic and income wise since I started this website over 2 years ago. Google made another update at the start of this month which is the reason we had such a good month – our referrals from Google went through the roof which affected just about every other metric. So, what were the numbers …

You can view past stats reports here.

Traffic and other Metrics

Overall traffic for October :

This chart shows the search traffic for the month :

  • Site Visitors: 163,152  (+31,023)
  • Page Views: 284,826  (+56,684)
  • Search Engine Visits: 132,564 (+34,548)
  • Alexa Rank: 8,365 (-625)
  • RSS Subscribers: 2560 (+181)
  • Twitter Followers: 3819 (+79)
  • Facebook Fans: 2197 (+39)
  • Reader Comments: 170 (-63)

Income

In this section, all display advertising at the moment is handled through BuySellAds. For the affiliate income, there were 33 different sources linked through various posts. If you want to know more about how I monetize the site & which plugins I use, see the article I wrote about affiliate links.

  • Display Advertising: $615
  • Affiliate Income: $5208.7
  • Total Income: $5823.7 (+2353.25)

Conclusion

So, thanks to Google we ended up receiving an extra 31,000 visitors over last month’s which is was allready one of our best ever so to beat it by that amount is amazing. This translated to an extra $2300 in income bringing the total to over $5800 which again, is amazing. Its so encouraging when you get a month like we did last month – although its not nice to be at the mercy of Google and their algorithm which can change at a moments notice as you saw earlier in the year when we lost a lot of traffic.

I dont anticipate November to be able to beat that and December wont as traffic always dies down a bit over the festive period so I will have to be happy with that as the record for the year and aim to beat it next year. Im still working on the new version of WPLift – I keep changing my mind about the layout so will probably be a while before I launch that – the bigger a site gets the more you have to be careful with a full redesign.

  1. This is awesome Oli, I really enjoy your transparency with this income and stats reports. I just started my blog a month ago and am already getting subscribers, so that is motivating, to say the least. I’m going to just keep pounding away at it over the next couple of years, or at least until I get to a point where I can accept quality guest posts.

Good going man, can’t wait till next month!

  2. Great to see you doing so well, those affiliate numbers are making me jealous!

  3. inspiring :) wish me good luck for atleast getting $500 each month :)

  4. Absolutely amazed dude. Top content equals top traffic, I always watch wplift. Mainly because not only do you offer awesome content, your true to your word, there is no BS with you. Simple (forgive me for saying it) content that offers real value to other WordPress peeps.

I can only aspire to where you are now hopefully (one day) I will, till then I encourage all WP Peeps, to keep tabs on wplift. Dude your a megastar when it comes to WP – Fact.

  5. That was very inspiring, I hope we’ll be able to hit that mark after two years or hopefully lesser. Keep it up.

The content on wplift is useful and I believe people know how to find what they need. So even if a Google update slows down traffic, useful content will soon bring it back.

Is it Wplift alone? or included other websites earnings? BTW $6000 is really awesome to see in a bloggers pocket. Keep going.

Its great to see a website benefitting from the Google algorithmic changes – especially when much of the income is affiliate based! – Great Work!
