With the proliferation of internet browsing on mobile devices these days, it helps to prepare your WordPress blog for the best possible browsing experience for mobile users.
In this guide we will be taking a look at a few things you can do to ensure their experience is a good one.
Free Mobile WordPress Themes
There are a number of mobile theme options to choose from, free and premium – take your pick from these:
iPhonsta
WP Touch Free Version
WordPress Mobile Theme
News Press Mobile
Mobius
WordPress Mobile Pack
dotMobi WordPress Mobile Pack
Mobile Press
Premium Mobile Themes
WPTap
Simple Mobile
DotMobi
My Mobile Page
Hybrido
iWorld
SOFA iBloggr
iBusiness

Administer your Blog on the move
To help you administer your blog there are a number of plugins and apps you can use on your mobile device:
WordPress Mobile Admin
iPhone Mobile Admin
WordPress for iOS app
Create an iPhone Icon
Once you have chosen which mobile theme to use, another nice touch is to create an icon for iPhone and iPad users. If someone adds a bookmark to your website on their home screen, normally the iPhone will create a small screenshot of your site to use for the icon. A better solution is to prepare your own like we do on wplift.com :
![]()
To create yours, make a 57px x 57px icon and save it as a .PNG with the file name : apple-touch-icon.png
Upload that to your hosting and then add the following code between the <head> </head> tags of your site :
<link rel="apple-touch-icon" href="http://yourdomainhere.com/iphone-icon.png" />

did not knew about wordpress mobile admin need to give it a try
Just thought I’d pimp my responsive child theme to WordPress’s default Twenty Ten theme.
A post about it (which is of course using the theme) can be found here
http://gingerbreaddesign.co.uk/todd/2010/08/18/a-responsive-twenty-ten-wordpress-theme/
Bonus of this is that you don’t need to do anything special… and of course it caters for screens of all sizes so ipads, galaxy tabs etc are all catered for too.
Cheers Todd, I will check it out :)
Expand2Web has just released a new version of their SmallBiz Theme which has mobile landing pages: http://www.eileenlonergan.com/mobile-ready-themes. The mobile features are activated through their Dashboard Options Panel, it couldn’t be easier to use!
