We have looked at responsive WordPress themes in the past and that post proved really popular – the web design world is buzzing at the moment with this new method we can use to serve up different versions of the same site to different sized browsers and mobile devices. In today’s post Im going to take a look at blank responsive themes and theme frameworks you can use as a base to build your own responsive website.

Bones

The Responsive version of Bones is that starting point. With a stylesheet setup for media queries and a Mobile First approach, you’ll already be ahead of the curve.

Skeleton

Today, people visit your website from a variety of devices ranging from desktop computers, tablets, and smart phones. The average user spends only a few seconds before making a decision to stay on your site or not. Skeleton is a WordPress theme aimed at helping you build simple, uncluttered, useable, and mobile-friendly WordPress sites.

Meerkats

The Meerkats Theme is built to respond to different platforms and devices. It is a simple and basic WordPress theme built by Gregor McKelvie. There’s no need to click on demo or preview as what you are looking at is the Meerkats Theme. Try it in different browser widths, on an iphone and on a tablet – it adapts well.

Foundation

Foundation, for WordPress, is a blank starter theme with the exceptional capabilities of ZURB’s Foundation Framework and HTML5 Boilerplate. As a neat-freak designer, it’s sometimes intimidating and frustrating looking at a WordPress theme framework that’s jam-packed with unnecessary extras and bloated code. That’s why I created Foundation, for WordPress, which offers only the necessary essentials to get your site running, with all the jazz of responsive web-design.

Whiteboard Framework

Whiteboard Framework has been helping WordPress developers cut back on their development time and improve their WordPress powered websites since 2008.

Responsive Twenty Ten

Flexible

Content should always be optimized to fit any screen. It is constantly accessed regardless platforms like android, iOS, or BlackberryOS. Content needs to be presented accordingly devices such as smart phones, tablets, netbooks, notebooks, desktops. Including Facebook is letting websites present content to their entire user base.

Ari

Ari is a free WordPress theme with a clean, minimalistic design. The theme has a responsive layout that is optimized for different browser sizes and mobile devices (tablet pcs or modern smartphones). Ari is a simple to use, flexible blog theme best suited for small blogs or personal blogging.

Reverie

Reverie Framework is an extremely versatile HTML5 WordPress framework based on ZURB’s Foundation, a powerful tool for building prototypes on any kind of devices. Reverie follows HTML5 Boilerplate standard and is hNews microformat ready. It is optimized for Search Engine while at the same time improve readability.
